I studied at Crawford College of Art in Cork and spent over 30 years as an art teacher in secondary school. Over those years I developed the craft of batik to a very high standard with senior students.

Despite working full time and raising a family, over the years I always found time for painting and drawing but when my teaching work ended, I also began to explore batik more fully for myself.

The series Siúlóidí (meaning walks) was inspired by my daily walks in Crosshaven. In this coastal village of Cork Ireland, a walkway meanders along the old railway line by the waterside and the boats in an area known as Drakes Pool.

I also love to walk in the nearby woods and find the sculptural shapes of the winter trees particularly fascinating, with the village and the houses seen through the tangle of the bare branches.
